AIRIE Asks: Dara Friedman

AIRIE Asks is a new online initiative led by Helen Toomer, AIRIE’s Executive Director, in which she asks fellows of the residency program a series of questions related to their time spent within the Everglades, how it affected them and their practice and what they are working on now. For the inaugural episode AIRIE Asks Dara Friedman, the internationally renowned, Miami-based artist and filmmaker, to share her experience as the artist-in-residence in January, 2020.

Dara Friedman is a German-born artist and filmmaker working in Miami. With a background in structural film and dance, Friedman’s cinema calls for a radical reduction of the medium to its most essential material properties.

For the safety and well-being of our artists, community and collaborators, AIRIE has postponed all residency activity and programming in the Everglades. The AIRIE Nest Gallery inside the Ernest F. Coe Visitors Center is closed, as is the main entrance to Everglades National Park, until further notice.

The AIRIE Application for 2021 residencies has been postponed. The application window and new deadline will be announced shortly.
