ABOUT THE RESIDENCY

Through photography and mixed media, Cornelius Tulloch re-imagined transatlantic narratives of black histories, cultures, and bodies in the Everglades. Influenced by the likes of the Florida Highwaymen and Black Seminoles he researched the Florida natural landscape as a space of liberation.  “By looking at how our human habits relate to the environment, we can begin to create an inclusive space and dialogue with the environment that fosters a culture of ecological consciousness and social equity,” Tulloch notes.

"Being at Everglades National Park through AIRIE was a truly transformative experience. I feel as if I’ve been picked up and dropped on another planet, in the best way possible." - Cornelius Tulloch
