Press Release
2024 Residency Fellows and Quarter 1 Activations
February 2024
Miami, FL - Artists in Residence in Everglades (AIRIE), the South Florida-based non-profit organization that empowers artists to think critically about their relationship to the environment, announces its 2024 Fellows and first-quarter activations. AIRIE is dedicated to harnessing the transformative power of art to initiate diverse environmental narratives and solutions that advocate for social and environmental change.
AIRIE proudly partners with the Everglades National Park (ENP) to offer a month-long residency that empowers artists to explore the environment and participate in excursions, activations, and community connections while living in the park. The immersive residency experience inspires the development of new artistic works focused on reflection and creative expression for each fellow within the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. The 2024 AIRIE Fellows include Morel Doucet, Lauren Shapiro, Charles Humes Jr., Venus Jasper, Gentry George, Chris Friday, Laurena Finéus, David Rahahę•tih Webb, The Honourable Elizabeth A. Baker, and Germane Barnes. This year's fellows have been invited to define innovative storytelling and how this innovation leads to the preservation, celebration, and education of the national environment.
AIRIE is committed to expanding community engagement and fostering conversations through dynamic events and activations this year. Collaborative programming and innovative partnerships aim to ignite inclusive dialogue and drive action on environmental issues, fostering safe spaces to cultivate collective impact and positive change.
